What geek hasn’t dreamed of having JARVIS in their life? The ability to have an A.I. personal assistant with you at all times would make life just so much more entertaining, not to mention waaaaay more organized. One could only hope that the technology for a real life JARVIS will be developed soon, we certainly are getting closer. And now, Marvel fans, earlier this week the JARVIS app was released for iOS devices.
While the JARVIS app is limited in what it can do and is not a full replacement for Siri (damn it), the awesomeness factor is exponentially higher. The JARVIS iPhone app features a voice controlled interface with the ability to tell you the current date, time, temperature, weather forecast, and even your appointment reminders, all in the JARVIS voice we know from the movies.
To top it all of, you even have the ability to wake up like Tony Stark with the customizable alarm clock. JARVIS will ring a few times, then apologize “for the disturbance” and let you know “it’s time for you to wake up”. Once you unlock the iPhone or iPad, it will then tell you the information you customized it to let you know upon waking up. Here’s how I now wake up in the morning:
“Good morning, Sir. The temperature is currently 70° Fahrenheit. Scans indicate clear and sunny skies today.” JARVIS’s then inserts a random Iron Man reference followed by “enjoy your day, you have no pressing events”.
Freaking awesome! Ever since the first Iron Man I wanted to have JARVIS wake me up. I know there are ways of doing this with programming and different software and such, but ain’t nobody got time for that.
I have found a couple of things wrong with the app that will hopefully be fixed. Firstly, When JARVIS goes to wake you up, you’d better wake up. Upon the alarm going off, JARVIS rings and talks to you for about 15 seconds, but after those 15 seconds, the alarm turns off. My first thought was that it just went into snooze mode and would sound off again in 9 minutes, but after 15 minutes of waiting, I figured it wouldn’t work. Pretty big problem if you’re a deep sleeper, better make sure the volume is up before heading to bed.
Secondly, I found was if you use a passcode lock on your device, when JARVIS wakes you, the app seems to reboot, and does not give you the walkthrough of custom alerts you previously set, kind of defeating the purpose of having the badass JARVIS alarm in the first place.
Now back to the awesome. The JARVIS app also comes equipped with various ringtones and alerts for email notifications and text messages. Pretty great addition if you want your phone to be one step closer to that full JARVIS experience.
The JARVIS app is set up to work with the Iron Man 3 Blu-ray revealing hidden files and suits embedded throughout the disc. If added special features weren’t enough for you, the Iron Man 3 Blu-ray is fully voice activated with the JARVIS app, provided your mobile device and Blu-ray player are both connected.
This app is super cool. Granted, you can’t control many things with it, you may not be on time for your appointments with the alarm only going off for a short amount of time, and if you use a passcode you may not have all of the features available, but being able to talk to JARVIS to control what it can, is freaking awesome. For anyone yearning to be Tony Stark, the JARVIS app can take you one step closer to making that dream come true. Now all you need is the suit, the house, the genius, and let’s not forget the billions. Details, just minor details.
